Islamic state claims murder in London
Four people, including the attacker, were killed in the attack and 40 wounded near the British Parliament.
The Islamic state claimed responsibility for the attack outside the British parliament in London on Thursday. The Amaq agency, which is linked to terrorists, has released the information.
Four people, including the assailant, died in the attack and 40 were injured after a car hit a pedestrian crossing on the Westminster Bridge sidewalk near Big Ben on Wednesday afternoon. The terrorist, who did not have the identity disclosed, still murdered a police officer with stab wounds. He was shot dead by the police.
"The perpetrator of the attacks yesterday in front of the British Parliament in London is a soldier of the Islamic state and carried out the operation in response to requests to attack coalition citizens," Amaq said in a statement released by Reuters.
British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Thursday that security forces had already investigated the perpetrator of the terrorist attack. The attacker, who was killed by the police, is British and did not have the identity disclosed.
"What I can confirm is that the man is British and that some years ago he was investigated by MI5 regarding concerns about violent extremism. He was a minor figure. He was not part of the current intelligence scene, "May said in Parliament, resuming his activities this morning.
In a statement in front of Scotland Yard headquarters, Mark Rowley said that no evidence has yet been found pointing to "new terrorist threats". However, the United Kingdom remains on alert.
Parliament resumed activities on Thursday after a minute of silence in honor of the victims. The perimeter around the property remains, however, isolated and the Westminster subway station closed to the public.
The Westminster Bridge, where researchers continue to work, is also closed to the public, according to France Presse.
The policeman who was killed after being stabbed was Keith Palmer, 48. Almer was a member of Parliament's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Service, according to the BBC. The former military man had worked for the corporation for 15 years, was married and had children.
Aysha Frade, 43, was hit by the attacker's car and launched into a bus. She was to meet with her daughters at the time of the attack, according to the Daily Mail newspaper. The third victim was a middle-aged man, who has not yet been identified. The identity of the terrorist is kept secret by the police.
Forty people were injured in the attack - among them three policemen. A seriously injured woman was taken off the River Thames. In the morning of this Thursday, 29 people were hospitalized - seven of them are in serious condition.
Among the wounded are 12 British and several foreigners: French children, two Romanians, four South Koreans, one German, one Chinese and two Greeks, according to the prime minister.
Queen Elizabeth II issued a message about the attack. "My thoughts, my prayers and my deepest condolences are with all those who were affected by the terrible violence of yesterday," the monarch said in a statement.
