Man who killed child while playing Pokémon Go is sentenced to prison
Keita Noritake, 9, was hit in Ichinomiya city, central Japan, when crossed a pedestrian lane upon returning from high school

Nobusuke Kawai, 36, was sentenced to three years in prison for running and killing a 9-year-old boy while playing Pokémon GO on his smartphone and driving a truck at the same time. The incident occurred in October 2016.
Keita Noritake, 9, was hit in Ichinomiya city, central Japan, while crossing a pedestrian lane upon returning from high school. When the truck hit the child, the driver was looking at his phone, placed in the passenger seat.
The Nago District Court gave the verdict after finding that the man was irresponsible at the wheel and that he played routinely while driving.
Three years is a "very smooth" sentence, said the boy's father, Takatoshi Noritake, who considers suing the driver for damages. The prosecution has applied for a four-year sentence.
A few days after the accident, the victims' parents filed a public petition to prevent the application from being used while driving. Keita Noritake was the first child killed in an accident linked to the Pokémon GO after the deaths of two women, aged 72 and 29, since the game was launched in Japan in July last year.
